Aside from the team at advisorRETIRE™, asking some of your fellow business owners and professionals about the procedure that they went through when they had to pass their business on is always something from which you can benefit. If you have some friends that are currently working on their succession planning, then it would be beneficial to ask them about when they started or how long the process is taking. Simple general questions to help you get a better feel of what the succession process will look like at its entirety.

Make a Plan

The entire process of succession planning is designed so that at the end of each meeting and analysis, we are able to move forward a step with the overall end plan of your succession. As this process is being completed, you’ll see that a plan for your future slowly starts to solidify and become a secure future to look forward to. This will continue to solidify as you make more and more decisions and work through different plans, and this is something that we’ll be extremely hands-on with. We do our best to find the most fitting options that are available to you and provide you with the helping hand when you need more information or advice.

As the plan begins to become finalized, it then becomes time for you to figure out what and how you need to implement changes in order for the business to be at it’s ultimate state when you are finally ready to retire. This can sometimes be more difficult when you aren’t entirely sure what the right answer or strategy is to get you to your final destination in regards to your business’ succession plan, and this is exactly why taking the time to thoroughly map out all of the steps within your succession plan is essential. Which leads us to our next point…

Time It Out

One of the subjects that we cover most often is time. Succession planning is a very tedious project to take on because it does require so much attention to details. Because you’re going to want this plan to be as accurate as possible, make sure that you consider when you want to start planning your succession so that you have ample time to fix any hiccups along the way and get it to a place where you are comfortable with the plan that you’ve created.

Too often individuals leave their succession until the last minute, and we are then stuck scrambling so that we can provide our best, however, our best is not based on a quick time frame. At advisorRETIRE™, we want to make sure that we visit a variety of options and find the best answers and circumstances so that you can confidently move on with your retirement.
